Yay Ella! She has been counting down to this day for weeks and it is finally here! Ella's birthday fell on a Friday this year so with G-ma C and Aunt Kristy watching Gavin, the girls and I went out for an afternoon of fun. First, I took the girls to get their nails done. The place was small and the people weren't very friendly so I opted to wait to take a picture. I asked Ella what she wanted to do next and she chose to go see Madagascar 3 at the theatre. Here are the girls showing off their nails before we headed into the show.(Ella, as usual, wouldn't cooperate) Ava has pink with sparkles and Ella has purple with sparkles!
Ava enjoyed the movie and Ella got a nice nap. By the time the movie was over it was dinner time, but with all the movie treats the girls weren't hungry so we headed home. She was so excited to finally be three, but she was even more excited for the party on Saturday. Ava and Ella have been enjoying the water more this year, so G-ma and G-pa F were nice enough to host a pool party for Ella this year. If you're wondering how we celebrate the big 3? This is it...
Everyone just hung out around the pool, and what seemed too hot to do much else, turned out to be one of the coolest days in June. I think it's been at least 100 degrees everyday since her party. Even Gavin got in some pool time between naps.
On Ella's actual birthday the girls started swimming lessons. Ella is still skeptical and not very trusting of their coach, but Ava has really enjoyed it. She loves using goggles to see underwater, but still relies on holding her nose. Hopefully by the end of the summer she can go under with both hands free?!
At one point in time Ava mentioned she wanted to jump to someone off the diving board, this is huge for her, so we grabbed the camera and some rafts, and Uncle Brad offered to jump in and catch her. But, as you can tell by her face, she was having second thoughts and chose to wait till some other time.
Next up was cupcakes, singing and presents. Ella has started a new thing lately, putting her hands all over her mouth and face when nervous. This makes it nearly impossible to get a good picture of her. She was also not in the mood for pictures, so I was unable to get that great "cake" picture this year. Not to mention the lack of "cake". She wanted cupcake push pops for her birthday, which is fine, but they don't make for good candle blowing opportunities. We used a little brownie for the moment instead...you can still do that with only 3 candles:)
As crazy as it seems to me, this was as messy as she got with the cupcakes, brownie and a chocolate covered strawberry...she makes a bigger mess with cottage cheese!
Present time....ooh, she accidentally smiled at me!! Gotcha!
Ava is pretty much always ready for the camera.
We did more presents outside where Ava and Ashton were there to help Ella if need be.
Ella got some silly dress up hats and although she did not want any on her head yet, Ava volunteered.
So did Ashton...
Ella did manage to crack a few more smiles when she got her own big girl swing. Up till now there was one baby swing, one regular swing and one tire swing. So Ava and Ella would usually argue over who got the big girl swing, but not anymore!! Instead they argued over who got to swing on the new one...drama continues!!
Here is the only picture I got of the babies together. I love how Gavin and London are checking each other out.
That was it for the party. Ava, Ella and Gavin were all exhausted, so much so they all ended up with colds in the next few days. Ella had a blast and loved having all the attention on her, even with her hands all over her face. I still can't believe she's three! We went to the doctor for her three year check up last Friday and she was three ft. tall (19%) and weighed in at 27 lbs.(16%). So, needless to say, she is tiny. But, like I was always told...."good things come in small packages"! Thanks to all who came and helped us celebrate, and here's to many more birthdays and hopefully growth spurts.
Gavin didn't mind the pool party, but he is much happier crawling free on the floor. He also enjoyed the balloons more the next day when they were within reach!
This picture is actually from the beginning of June..crazy to think we had jackets on and now it's 103! We had Gavin's 9 month check up last week and I am happy to report we are on a normal diet!!! Regular old CHEAP Enfamil is a wonderful thing! Gavin is now 2 ft. and 5.5 in. tall (72%) and 18 lbs. 7 oz.(11%). He is actually very close to Ava's size at this age. The girls and I were actually looking at old pictures last week and we came across one of Ava when she was about 9 months old and they both said "there is Gavin". I had to correct them and say it's actually Ava, but no one believed me. They do look quite similar with slightly different eyes and Gavin's face is a bit more round. I would post an old one of Ava, but they are all on my old computer and that just seems like a to of work right now. Although Gavin may resemble Ava's looks he DOES NOT have her personality!! He is needy, demanding, LOUD, destructive and a HUGE momma's boy!!
Finally, I leave you with a picture of our very own Herpetologist. I mentioned in the last blog that Ava loves reptiles, bugs, insects and all sorts of creepy crawlers. Here she is at school when the reptile man came and she volunteered to hold his snake! From my understanding she was pretty much the only kid who wanted to hold the snake. Moments like this make me realize just how different we are sometimes!
