I can't take it! This winter is lasting FOREVER! I DO NOT want anything else to fall from the sky for at least the next three months!! Please Mother Nature…this is my wish!! After watching the girls out in the snow numerous times this winter, Gavin was finally ready to join in the fun during the latest snowfall. I did not plan on this happening this winter so I did not have anything but these pretty pink gloves for him. :)
I was hoping these would be the last snow pictures for the season, but after hearing the latest forecast, I am not optimistic!
The girls were thrill with yet another snow day, on my birthday none the less, every mother's dream!
Since Gavin wouldn't stop trying to go up and down the stairs and I was afraid of him falling, I decided to lock them all up on the deck. It worked out great.
I kept asking Gavin if he was ready to go in and he would say "no" clearer than any word he has ever said.
He consumed more snow than any kid I've ever seen. He eventually wanted to go in and I think it was only because his mouth was so cold!
We have been trying to keep ourselves busy with indoor activities. At the beginning of the month I took the girls to see the movie Frozen. We had seen the movie before but this time the theatre was offering a sing-a-long version. It was so cute…every time a song was played during the movie numerous little voices could be heard singing along. Ella didn't just sing along with the songs, she could be heard reciting most of the script too. To say the girls loved it would be an understatement!
We also took a trip last month to the Science Center. My plan was to wait till the girls got a little older to introduce them to the Science Center, but when they started advertising a live bug exhibit I had to take them, particularly Ava (the entomologist). Ava was very excited and Ella was a bit nervous. First up was the cockroach races, I wasn't tall enough to get a picture of all the action.
After watching the races Ava couldn't wait to get her hands on one of those roaches! SO GROSS and SO NOT ME!
We couldn't stop with just the roaches, next up was the meal worms!
I did not think Ella would get too hands on with the bugs, but she surprised me and touched everything Ava did. Here's the roach...
and here's a millipede.
It wasn't all about touching bugs, thank God, here are the girls in a large bubble-like aquarium. It was suppose to give you a fish's perspective.
Ava had also taken a turn with the millipede, she even took it one step further and let it crawl on her! That was where Ella drew the line.
After we had had our fill of bugs, literally, they had bug cookies, (Ava nor Ella nor I would try one, I know...disappointing) we moved over to a science demonstration on electricity. The girls had a fun time, and while Ava could have spent tons of time looking at all the different displays, Ella was less impressed and ready to go home. We managed to stay about another hour, but it was turning into more work than play so we headed home.
After having school cancelled and spending time in the snow on my birthday a friend of mine brought us dinner and cake! The evening started to look up…she even watched my kids so I could get my hair done…it's the little things.
The snow melted, again, and we had a FEW days of "warmer" weather (40's & 50's). We also had Valentine's day. Both girls had their usual class parties. but since Ava's was held during Gavin's nap time I was only able to attend Ella's party. Ella's class put on quite a show including about 3 songs and 3-4 jokes. That munchkin in the middle with the pigtails is Ella, her closest friend Emma and one of the tallest girls in the class is to her right. :)
I had Gavin with me during the party and was a bit nervous about how he would behave. Luckily, he kept himself very entertained with the dollhouse, just like most boys, right?!
A big change took place with Ella last week…she got glasses! If you remember back to last September, Ella took quite a spill on her scooter. Shortly after that accident I started to notice Ella's right eye drifting in. It took another month before I knew for sure that I was seeing something and it just continued to deteriorate from there. We made an eye appointment right away, but there was a three month wait. By the time we saw the doctor two weeks ago her eye was almost always crossed, she had double vision and was even covering the eye so she could focus on things.
The doctor determined that Ella is actually quite farsighted and has a strabismus, more specifically an accommodative exotropia. Her eye, for a long time, has been working SO hard to focus the muscle had finally had enough! Maybe due to the stress of the fall. He believes she has been seeing double for many many months and has been struggling to focus for years! Can I just say I felt like parent of the year when I heard that! He assured me there was probably no way for us to know, and that kids adapt amazingly when there eyes are having issues. Anyway, all is well now and Ella loves her glasses, mainly because she can see now! As soon as she put them on for the first time she said "oooh, I see. There's only one of you Mom!" She even got dizzy walking for the first time, which they believe is because she was use to seeing two paths! It brought tears to my eyes to know she had been suffering for so long! I was worried about her keeping her glasses on at first, but she wants them on first thing in the morning because with out them she immediate sees double. :(
The doctor believes her eye will start to correct itself and grow stronger. He will then be able to continually weaken her prescription (which is very strong now) and eventually she will not need glasses for a number of years. Later in life she may need them for reading….this is similar to my vision path minus the drifting eye and double vision. I had glasses as a child, didn't need them in jr. high or high school and then got them again late in college for reading. We have quite a road ahead of us, I'm just glad we now know about it and can help her!! Stay tuned, February only gets crazier!!
