Ella Turns 2!!!

I have some catching up to do, we've had some crazy last few weeks so bear with me. One major even that took place right in the midst of Ava's recitals was Ella's 2nd birthday! She's been saying she is two years old for months now and she is finally right. Because of the recitals I couldn't plan the typical big birthday party as usual, so instead we had 3 mini-parties. Poor second child...no big birthday party. I hope the fact that we celebrated on three separate occasions makes up for it.

On Ella's actual birthday we took the girls up to Chuck-E-Cheese. Unfortunately, I just had the small camera with me and with the girls running around the shutter speed just couldn't keep up. This was the only decent picture I got.
After games and pizza we came back to the house for some cake and candles.

Here is Ella's cake face...she stayed remarkably clean for two years old.

The weekend before Ella's birthday we were able to celebrate with Grandma and Grandpa C, Aunt Linzy and Ashton since everyone was in town for the recital. Please do not look closely at the cake. I am not a bakery chef by any means and this may have been my last attempt at decorating a cake...it was sad. Luckily, Ella didn't notice and she enjoyed the cake regardless.

Here's the birthday girl blowing out her candles...again.

Here again we have her cake face, a bit messier this time, but still not bad.

After the cake the sillies set in and Ella loved having everyone laugh at her silly faces.

The faces got cheesier and cheesier...

Ava wanted to make sure we got a picture of her cake face too.

Next we moved on to opening presents. There weren't a lot of gifts this year since we just got a new art table for the girls in the office, but Ella was excited about her new grocery cart.

Finally, the weekend after Ella's birthday we went out to Grandma and Grandpa F's house for a few more gifts and cupcakes. By this point I think the excitement of having people sing to her had worn off...along with taking pictures. I grabbed a few of Ella opening her gifts, but that was it. She is a huge fan of Dora and Diego right now so she was thrilled to receive lots of new Dora books and toys.

Overall, I don't think Ella felt like she was cheated out of a party, she definitely had her fill of cake! The week after her birthday we went to the doctor for her two year checkup. She is still in great health weighing in at 25 pounds, which just so happens to be the exact weight Ava was. And she is 33 inches tall, 1.25in shorter than Ava was. She is still on the charts at 25% but much lower considering at 18months she was still around the 60th percentile for height. So she may be a bit on the short side like her mom, but I've always been told "good things come in small packages." :) Ella, now at two years old, is more stubborn than ever. She wants everything done her way and on her time! She has a scream that could shatter glass and uses it whenever she doesn't get her way. However, on the flip side, Ella loves to cuddle (when she's in the mood), she almost always says "please", "thank you", and "bless you" when someone sneezes. She tries to comfort you if she thinks you are upset and tries to make your boo boo's go away by rubbing her blanket on them. She also, like Ava, loves to perform. She sings for anyone who asks (if she's in the mood) and her favorites include...ABC's, Ba Ba Black Sheep, Twinkle Little Star, and I'm a Little Tea Pot to name a few. About two months before her birthday we made the transition to a bed, with which she did great. And soon I hope to post some pictures of her new "big girl" room...she is very proud. Our next goal is to be potty trained by the end of August so I will let you know how that goes, but as stated before, Ella doesn't do anything Ella's not in the mood to do, so we'll see???
