Fireworks and Fun

Happy Fourth of July! I realize I am posting this way after the fourth, but it's been crazy. We had a much more exciting fourth this year, since this is the first year that Ava would sit outside during fireworks and not cry. She did insist on wearing headphones to block out the sound, which regretfully I did not get a picture of, it was quite a sight. We started the weekend by going to the Jefferson Barracks fireworks show on Friday night. One word to describe the night would be "HOT"!!!

The girls got to have their first funnel cake...the powdered sugar was a big hit.
As the night got darker the excitement grew for the fireworks. We wanted to be sure to have a good spot for the show so we drove deep into the parking lot and sat right in the middle of the crowd. Come to find out, if you sit that close to the action you will be sprinkled with firework ashes, you will be even hotter, and getting out of the parking lot will take forever! The firework show was good and although she did not like the noise, Ava didn't cry. Ella showed early signs of tears, but soon realized she was in no danger and she enjoyed the show. Over the next two days we were out late in the streets playing with sparklers and other little fireworks. We enjoyed the fourth till about 10pm when both girls asked to go inside and go to bed....it was a long weekend!

The week after the fourth the girls and I went with Aunt Linzy, Uncle Brian and Ashton to try out a new activity...Bowling! To sum things up I don't think we'll be bowling again any time soon. We joined a kids bowl free program thinking it would be a good activity for when it's really hot outside, but the girls are not ready! Ava started strong, but didn't like waiting so long for her next turn. Here she is showing off her pushing technique. After numerous times of the ball not making it down the lane we got a ramp for the kids to push the ball down, which helped immensely.

Ella thought it was neat the first one or two times and then, like Ashton, could care less, and much preferred running around. Ava then took over every one's game and got to bowl non-stop. It wasn't long before she too was bored with bowling and we soon left.

We can say we tried it, and I now know not to bother with it again till the youngest child is at least 4 or 5. Our focus had to shift and it was time to prepare for our second family vacation in the mountains of Colorado!
