Say hello to our newest family member, Zoe. I have no idea what was going through my head, but I had a weak moment and decided to give in to Ava's numerous requests for a puppy. We had discussed the possibility and I had always said maybe after Gavin was potty trained. Then last Friday I decided JUST to look at some breeds online, which narrowed it down to Golden doodles. I then found one adorable and expensive puppy available in Georgia...safe distance away and too much $$$. However, within 5 hours we located a breeder in Collinsville, IL who had 6 week old puppies coming available on Saturday! It seemed like before I could even collect my thoughts I was meeting with the breeder Saturday morning and looking 12 precious little puppies. The rest is history and now little Miss Zoe is here to stay.
We had not said anything to the kids do to the fact that I was "so sure" I would just be looking at the puppies, not bringing one home. When I arrived home Dan had the girls sitting in chairs waiting to see what surprise I had...the expression on their faces was priceless!!
The girls were ecstatic, but Gavin was really confused.
Here, if you look very close you can see that Ava started crying. She said she was just so happy! Whatever doubts I had about bringing that puppy home were erased...she was so excited and so sweet, I'll never forget that moment!
Gavin eventually started to warm up...
and Ava eventually stopped crying.
Early Merry Christmas 2012!!!
Zoe is only 6 weeks old, but so far she is a great puppy. Like any puppy she does have some accidents and definitely chews on more than she should, however, she sleeps through the night with no whining or accidents. She is pretty good at listening, knows her name and doesn't react when Gavin pokes her in the face.
Gavin still isn't a huge fan because every chance she gets Zoe latched onto Gavin's blanket and tries to pull it right out of his hands. It's a love/hate relationship.
And finally, Zoe's favorite things to do is sleep! She sleeps through the night 10:30ish-7:30ish. Then she sleeps most of the day too. I realize this will probably change as she gets older, but I am enjoying it while it lasts.
Her favorite place to do all this sleeping is on piles of laundry. Clean or dirty, folded or unfolded she doesn't care and we have plenty of laundry! I will admit I have a tendency to get pregnant right around the time when my baby is giving up the bottle, which Gavin just did. So since we won't be having any more children I may have found a solution? Or a major problem?
In other news Ella asked for a bike for Christmas so we had her try out Ava's bike to see what would be the best fit. She looked ready..
was excited to pose for pictures...
but did not have the steering and pedaling down at the same time.
Ava wanted to get some posing in too.
And then there's our little man. Gavin is now running around like a crazy kid. He gets into everything!!! Things the girls never thought to mess with, or ignored once they were told "no", only entice Gavin more. Every time I turn around he has destroyed something else, which only makes getting a puppy an even crazier idea! Just today I had to run Zoe outside to go potty and when I turned back to the house Gavin was standing at the glass door with no pants on and two handfuls of toilet paper! Again, it may be awhile before my sanity returns!
This little smirk sums up Gavin perfectly...crazy, wild, mischievous but so darn cute!
Finally, I will end this long post with a picture of our kindergartner. Last week was Ava's "special child of the week" week. She was soo excited. She made this poster (with help) to hang in the hallway at school for all the kids to learn more about her. She got to bring in show and tell everyday, and I got to go in and read a story to her class. It was neat to see her in the "school" setting. They're a good group of kids, but there is no way I could be a kindergarten teacher. I had fun, she had a blast and it was a great week.
Now we move on to Christmas and all the wonderful craziness it entails!
