Ouch!

Two Saturdays ago Ella took quite a spill outside.  Her and Ava were racing along on their scooters as they do all the time, and I'm not sure what happened, but one minute she was laughing and the next she was landing on her face on the sidewalk.  She had her helmet on but unfortunately it doesn't protect her face...maybe that can be my new invention!?

She had mostly cuts and scrapes on her head and face.  Her mouth took the brunt of the force so she lost her first tooth, chipped another one, knocked one loose and had a lot of cuts on her gums.  After getting her inside and realizing her tooth was gone I sent Ava back out to find the tooth and this is what she brought me! (Kudos to her for finding it and bringing it in..I probably would have brushed that aside and looked for something smaller)
I had never seen any tooth like it and questioned whether is was even a tooth at all, but you can tell that's her little tooth at the top.  We had to pay a visit to the dentist to be sure there was no permanent damage(which there isn't) and she assured us that the missing tooth's appearance is totally normal.  Usually roots dissolve before the baby tooth comes out, but when it is knocked out or extracted with the roots that is what you get.  I can't imagine the force she must have hit with...I don't want to image it!!  The next night we took another picture to try and see the progress, if any, that the healing was making.  I have to give her credit for still smiling for all the pictures even though her mouth hurt her so bad and she was so embarrassed.

I grabbed some pics with my phone two days later and the swelling had definitely gone down.  The hardest part of the whole ordeal was how embarrassed she was for people to see her.  She was nervous to go to school because she didn't want people to look at her or ask questions.  Her teacher did a great job of telling her class upfront about her accident and then they all celebrated that she lost her first tooth.
There was about four days that she didn't want to go anywhere, see anyone and she would hide behind my leg.  For the most part kids were nice they just wanted to know what happened, it was the adults that spoke up more, asked more questions and made her the most uncomfortable.  Her face healed up so quickly, her mouth took a little longer but within a week she was back to normal...minus one tooth!

Ella slowly got back into the swing of things and after missing a soccer practice two days after her fall, she was back on the field last night.  Like her sister, there isn't a strong understanding of the game or desire to fight for the ball.  As you can kinda see here Ella(in yellow) and her classmates Emma, Aubrey and Kate (who all happen to be on the OTHER team) are chatting away as the ball (DURING the game) rolls behind them!

They continued to talk, compare numbers on their backs, show off their shoes and then lay on the ground and shake around like they were being electrocuted.

The game continued to go on behind them and they continued to socialize.  When the game ended Ella ran over and said "do I get a Slurpee Dad? I scored a goal!".  The goal she was referring to was when she took a ball (not the game ball) and went over to the large full soccer goal (not the mini nets they were using in their game) and kicked it in (all during the game she was supposed to be playing in).  "Nope sorry Ella that one didn't count, no Slurpee."  She did have fun, so I guess that's all that matters...RIGHT NOW!

With Ella back to her old self, her and Gavin have been playing more together.  This morning they sat in the doorway and waiting for the "trash truck" to come.  Gavin sits quietly and then when he hears the truck coming he jumps up, leans on the screen and yells "ash, ash, ash!" (his version of trash).  Ella and I just laugh at his excitement.

They have a bit of a love/hate relationship.  They play well together when Ella does whatever Gavin wants, but when it's Ella's turn to pick the activity or hold the toy or whatever....Gavin starts to show his terrible two's!  He has been stomping, yelling, hitting and throwing!  This is all new behavior over the last two weeks or so.  I am assuming it is the terrible two's and I plan to break him of these habits sooner rather than later...I emphasize the word plan!

While Gavin has had an increase in the temper tantrums, I do have to give him credit for the number of activities he has to sit through during the week for his sisters.  He has two hours of soccer, two hours of gymnastics and two hours of dance in a week.  That doesn't even count weekend games, the drive time, errand running school drop offs and pick ups and places I drag him to.  His life is very different from what Ava's was like at two years old!   Something tells me he doesn't mind being at the dance studio...
He's a good boy, but he's definitely testing me right now!  I will win this battle!! I'm pretty sure :) !
