It is crazy to me that it is already the end of August!? I feel like I just updated the blog, but I have now noticed it was over a month ago!! We are actually back to school and getting back into our routine, however I thought I'd take a look back over the last month to show how our Summer 2014 ended.
At the end of July it was time to celebrate Ashton's birthday. Linzy and Brian had dinner plans one night so with G-ma C's help Ashton and London spent the night at our house and it was like a big party till way past G-ma's bedtime! :) The kids (Ella, Ashton, Gavin, London, Ava and our neighbor Christine) had plenty of pizza, salad and sugar...
We improvised since we didn't want all six kids helping with cake baking. Mini-drumsticks worked great, but melted FAST!
Gavin's admiration for Ashton continues to grow and he was so excited to have Ashton over for the whole night! It wasn't actually planned since Gavin took the first bath and was dressed before we got clothes out of Ashton's suitcase, but Gavin was THRILLED to have matching PJ's. The sleep over went really well and the kids did a great job of passing out from pure exhaustion by 9:45!
The kids were hoping to get one more swim weekend in out at G-ma and G-pa's F's house, but unfortunately there seems to be a hole in the liner somewhere. So other than playing with a remote controlled boat, there was no pool action.
At this point the kids were still about 2.5 weeks away from starting school, but I felt the summer ending. I got the camera out for some random pictures in hope to make time stand still a little longer. My SECOND grader!
My KINDERGARTNER!!
and my…hmmm…my curious, energetic little Gavin! LOL
With what time she had left Ava decided she wanted to start second grade as an official 2 wheeling bike rider. Once she made her mind up that she wanted to do it, it only took about 3 hours to master! It was something we were starting to wonder if she would ever desire to do, but we're so proud of her.
Not sure what I was thinking, but I decided to take on quite a home project this summer. We have totally remodeled our kitchen. It's not 100% complete so pictures will be posted at a later date. For the brief period that we had nothing in our cabinets Gavin enjoyed himself by hiding in the cabinets and using them as garages for his cars. Anyone who knows Gavin knows how he feels about garages!
I think I mentioned it before, but Ava and Ella tried tennis lessons for the first time this summer and really liked them. We had a summer membership at Chesterfield Athletic Club, which is where the lessons took place and in addition to tennis courts there is also a pool. We didn't get to it often, but we did manage to meet up with Ashton, London and Linzy a few times. The kids thought it was so cool to hang out in our own cabana.
Now it's crunch time which seems to be the time I try to pack in what I can before summer's officially over. G-ma F and I took the kids to see an outside showing of Frozen on a beautiful night. Anna and Elsa made an appearance…can you feel the excitement…all three kids were totally star struck! Not the best princess impressionists but it didn't matter to these three…they were in awe.
Almost showtime…the sun seemed to take "forever" to set. We anticipated that the girls would sit still and watch the movie and that Gavin may get crabby and have to walk around. Not the case…Ava and Ella were "tired", "Cold", "bored" and will probably not be doing an outdoor movie for awhile. On the other hand, Gavin sat, ate snacks and spent some time rearranging our chairs without one complaint.
With only days to spare we made the trip to Grants Farm. It was one of the many beautiful days we had this summer.
It was Gavin and Ella's first time there and I think everyone had a great time…especially feeding the goats! I couldn't get pictures of the goat feeding since I was in there too helping Gavin.
Gavin's naps are starting to become more infrequent, but after a morning at Grant's farm he couldn't keep his eyes open although he was trying so hard!
There was one other trip out to Linzy and Brain's house where the kids played for awhile. It didn't last long but it was cute to see Gavin and London going for a drive.
After a few minutes of continuous whiplash London had enough of Gavin's driving!
That leaves us at the start of school and the start of 100 degree temperatures!
