Merry Christmas and Happy 2016!

Busy and lazy, a combination I have used to describe myself a lot lately.  I spent so much of December running around, working (yes, I said working, I'll get to that in a minute), shopping, etc. that when I did have some free time and "could have" been updating the blog, I chose to sit and watch TV…sorry.
So, let's go back to the beginning of December….

It was a busy month for Gavin!  He got to go to his first Blues game with Daddy.  To say he loved it would be an understatement.  He ran in the house so hyped up on sugar adrenaline that he immediately got the iPad to do research on all the Star Wars characters that he and his friend Tyler talked about at the game.  While I tried to put him to bed he told me he had cookies, pretzels, ice-cream, hot chocolate, sprite, and more!  He had had SO many 'treats' that his little body couldn't hold it all in through the night and he had a very large disgusting accident around 3am.  I wouldn't bring this up if it weren't for the fact that as I bathed him in the middle of the night he danced around in the shower doing the penalty play dance, he was STILL on a sugar high!!  Next game I'm going to have to put a limit on the 'treats'.
Not sure if it was the week before or after but Gavin also had 'Mommy and Me' gingerbread house night with his class.  I know it took place close to the hockey game night because he was on a 'wearing a hat' kick for about a week or so and as you can see he wore a hat both nights.  The masterpiece we created can kind of be seen in the bottom of this picture.

Here are some of the kids that turned out to make houses…Only 4 of the kids in this picture including Gavin, are from his class.  It's a nice small class.

As I mentioned in my last post, Gavin started taking TaeKwonDo (TKD) and he loves it!  The weekend before Christmas was his first belt testing where Gavin earned his yellow stripe belt.  He did good, although after watching some of the kids, I think he would have had to refuse to participate in order to not move up.  He knew his stuff and that's all that matters.

He was so proud and is already talking about when he earns his black belt, which I think is about 25 belts away.  It's good to have goals.  His friend Henry was in class with him, however Henry decided TKD was not for him and is not taking the next session.  This is confusing for Gavin…"Mom, why would Henry not LOVE TKD, I love TKD, I'm gonna get all the belts!"

What do we do when one of our kids does something good (or pretty much anything these days)?  We go get ice cream and celebrate!!  This is starting to pose a problem though.  The other day Ella had a soccer game and they lost 9-0, she played "ok", and then she was furious with me after the game because we weren't going to celebrate with doughnuts or ice cream?!  We're creating sugar monsters!

While the girls weren't quite as busy as Gavin, they had plenty to do.  Soccer games are still going strong, along with dance.  Ava's basketball started right after Christmas, with Ella's not far behind. On one of the days off from activities and school the girls went to Glazed and Confused and painted pictures of Olaf with some friends.  Ella wasn't sure if she wanted to go because she didn't think she could draw a "good enough" picture of Olaf, but luckily it was already outlined for them.

They both did a great job and the pictures have since been added to our ever growing collection of artwork on the basement walls.

That brings us up to Christmas.  The Sunday Before Christmas we went to Aunt Linda's house for the annual dinner and game of 'Rob Your Neighbor', sorry no pictures.  On Christmas Eve G-ma and G-pa C came in town and we went to My cousin Kathy's house for dinner.  We hadn't seen them in years so it was nice to catch up with everyone, again, no pictures.  On Christmas Day Linzy, Brian, Ashton and London came over to celebrate with us and G-ma and G-pa C.  Sadly, this is the best picture I got of all five of the kids, and I did try! (notice Gavin's pose…it's hard for him not to be in ninja mode now…haha)

Earlier in the morning before everyone arrived we did our usual 'opening of the presents'.  We have to start making them open the gifts individually because I feel like we blink and it's over!?  I caught a few big moments, but not many.  Here was one of Gavin's favorite gifts, it's Everest from Paw Patrol, he now has all the Pups.  Of course now he wants 'the lookout' where they live…I can't win.

Ava was a bit excited to get her dance studio's competition jacket. All the pics were blurry because she wouldn't stop jumping.

Ella didn't have that "one gift" that she was so excited about this year.  She asked for shin guards, a soccer ball, a basketball, a soccer bag and stuffed animals, so shopping for her was super fun this year!!

Excitement hasn't worn off yet...

I got a big smile for the hat Ella knew she was getting because she picked it out!?  I see a lot of gift cards in this girls' future!

We took a break from gifts to play, eat, play some more, and once everyone was fed and sick of playing with what they JUST GOT, we started opening more gifts with everyone else.
"Smile Gavin"
"HiiiYaaa"

This was it for pictures of the second gift session…

The Sunday after Christmas we went to G-ma and G-pa F's house to do one last round of celebrating.  Again, it was mass chaos as everyone tore into their gifts and within minutes it was over.  This is the one and only picture I got with people looking at me.  Luckily Fiona and Penny can also be seen.  I promise to do better next year! Maybe even some posed group shots?!

Last but not least, was New Year's Eve.  I didn't even bring my camera and I barely got this picture with my phone.  We went to one friends house and let the kids run around and play, then headed to another friends house where the kids continued to run around until 11:45pm.  Yep, 15 minutes left and they couldn't do it, everyone hit a wall.  So we quickly packed up, drove home, changed in to PJ's with record speed, watched the ball drop on TV, yelled "Happy New Year", and went to bed!!
We ended the year happy and exhausted.
Here's to hoping for a happy healthy 2016!!

*Side note: Yes I got a job, nothing major or full time. Just a part time, work from home, data analyst job.  What does one need when they have 5-10 spare minutes in the morning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday??   A JOB!?!?  Oh well, we'll see how it goes.
