Catch Up

Wow, as long as the winter seemed to have lasted I still can't believe we are in the middle of March!  As usual, I had the best of intentions with keeping up to date on the blog but time seems to have gotten away from me again.  Ever since school started back up in January we have done nothing but run to activities and homework.

Ava had the infamous second grade 'dinosaur project' to do in the first few weeks back to school.  After flipping through numerous pictures of dinosaurs on google, Ava chose the Ichthyosaur.  I had never heard of this dinosaur, but she liked the fact that it looked like a dolphin.  Apparently, it is WAY back in the lineage of the dolphin.

Shortly after the week of the dinosaurs was Valentine's Day.  We've always made boxes for the girls, but this year Ella's teacher instructed us that they would be decorating envelopes during class (YAY!).  However, Ava's teacher asked that the kids make something at home and try to be "creative" (Boo!).  Do teachers not realize most "projects" in second grade fall on the parents!?!?  Anyway, Dan had the idea of using a cake container, I thought it kind of looked like the shape of a bug, and so Ava's "Love Bug" was born.  It was by far the most unique idea in her class.

With all the homework and projects poor Gavin has had to do a lot of self-entertaining.  He's pretty good at it…he loves Lego Duplo right now.  He hasn't been totally left out, another session of soccer started up for him at the beginning of February.

Next, Ava got to be 'child of the week' in her class. Which means, Mom and/or Dad (let's be real…Mom) has to print off pictures and make a poster all about Ava.  Ava got to give a presentation to the class about herself and bring in a few items through out the week for show and tell.  She was looking forward to this week since the first day of school.

Then, on the Thursday of 'Ava's Week' I got a note from Ella's teacher that the following week was 'Ella's week' in her class.  GRRRR!  Back to the computer to download/search out more pics and back to Walgreens to print them out.  You would think that being on my computer looking at pictures that much would have led me to updating the blog, but nope!  Ella's week consisted of much of the same, but she also got to have me come in and read to her class and bring in an extra snack.

The following week included Ava's birthday which I will touch on in the next post, but she also had an American history project to do.  She had to pick a historical American hero and give a presentation to the class about who that person was, why they were a hero and why she picked that person.  She also had to either dress like the person, make a timeline poster, or make a diorama.  Can you guess who Ava chose??
All the kids got to select their first 3 choices but were not guaranteed to get one of them for the project.  Ava was very excited she got Amelia Earhart…her first choice.
